Food checker
Search 119 everyday foods. Each one shows its approximate pH on a color strip from 0 (most acidic) to 14, with a clear rating: Gentle (pH 5 or higher), Caution (pH 4 to 5) or Avoid (below 4).
pHBytes is THE reflux app that learns your triggers and plans your meals around them.
It helps people with acid reflux eat with more confidence: check any food in seconds, find out which foods bother you personally, and get a week of gentle meals built around what you've learned.
pHBytes started when someone in our family with acid reflux couldn't find a simple way to check which foods were safe to eat. So we built one.
When she tried the first version, she said it was exactly what she had been looking for. That told us other people needed it too. Millions of people live with reflux, and most are handed a short list of foods to avoid and left to figure out the rest by trial and error.
Our goal is to make that trial and error shorter, calmer and more personal — so you spend less time worrying about your next meal and more time enjoying it.

Search 119 everyday foods. Each one shows its approximate pH on a color strip from 0 (most acidic) to 14, with a clear rating: Gentle (pH 5 or higher), Caution (pH 4 to 5) or Avoid (below 4).
Some foods cause reflux even when they aren't acidic — coffee, chocolate, mint, fatty and fried foods, alcohol, fizzy drinks, spicy food, onion and garlic. pHBytes flags these so they don't catch you off guard.
When a food is rated Caution or Avoid, pHBytes suggests gentler foods from the same group — melon instead of orange, for example.
Save the foods you check most. Read short, practical answers about what reflux is, habits that help, and when to see a doctor.
Log meals and symptoms like heartburn, a sour taste, coughing or bloating, rated from 1 to 5. pHBytes compares them and labels each food: Likely trigger, Possible trigger or Seems fine for you. It also shows what time of day symptoms happen and whether late dinners make things worse.
Download your full meal and symptom history as a spreadsheet to bring to your appointment. Doctors often ask reflux patients to keep a food diary — this one keeps itself.
Tell pHBytes how you eat, what to leave out (dairy, eggs, gluten, nuts and more), foods you dislike, and how many people you cook for. You get a 7-day plan of breakfasts, lunches, dinners and snacks that also skips your tracker triggers. Swap any meal with one tap.
Every recipe avoids the most common triggers: no tomato, citrus, chocolate, mint, raw onion or garlic, chili heat or deep frying. Amounts adjust to the number of people you're cooking for.
Add one recipe or your whole week in a single tap. pHBytes combines matching ingredients, sizes them for your household and sorts them by store aisle.
Scan a packaged food with your phone's camera, or type the barcode number. pHBytes reads the ingredient list and flags reflux triggers such as citrus, tomato, vinegar, caffeine and spice.
63 more foods, including condiments, drinks and common dishes like pizza, tacos and chicken noodle soup.
Use pHBytes in your browser on a phone, tablet or computer, and add it to your home screen like an app. Sign in to keep your logs in sync everywhere.
pHBytes helps you notice patterns and have better conversations with your doctor. It doesn't diagnose or treat any condition, and it never replaces medical care.
Our pH values are typical averages from published food references, such as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's list of approximate food pH values. Real foods vary, so we say so — and we mark dishes whose values are estimated.
